Healthcare providers like intermountainhealthcare.org, say that certain factors, such as weight, overall health, and height, can increase a person’s risk of developing blood clots. Fortunately, there are simple activities and exercises one can do to avoid them.

Do Some Light Stretching

You can perform a series of light stretches standing up or even lying on a couch or in bed. If you want to stretch your feet, spread out your toes up and back, flex your feet, and then hold the position for a couple of seconds. To prevent blood clots in thighs, lie on your back and elevate a leg to a 90-degree angle. Gently pull your leg toward you and hold the position for about half a minute. Repeat the same procedure with the other leg.

Take a Short Walk

Taking a quick walk is ideal for people who have been sitting at their desks all day. Take a trip to the restroom, walk toward your friends to say hi, or take a walk to get some fresh air. If you’re on a road trip, take the time to pull over at a safe place, stretch your legs, and walk around. Short walks can keep the blood flowing and reduce the formation of blood clots.

These chair exercises are for those who need to stay seated most of the time, such as passengers flying on an airplane. Simple chair exercises like shoulder rolls, leg raises, ankle circles, and foot pumps all help keep the blood coursing freely through your veins.
